American Musicological Society
The American Musicological Society's purpose is to advance scholarship in the various fields of music through research, learning, and teaching. To do this, it publishes a Journal and a Blog, holds an Annual Meeting, supports books in musicology, and offers a broad array of grants, fellowships, and awards throughout the year.
International Association for the Study of Popular Music
The International Association for the Study of Popular Music (IASPM) is an international organization established to promote inquiry, scholarship and analysis in the area of popular music. Founded in 1981, IASPM has grown into an international network. On national and international levels, the organization’s activities include conferences, publications and research projects designed to advance an understanding of popular music and the processes involved in its production and consumption. To build a large and diverse body of knowledge of popular music, IASPM is an organization which is both interprofessional and interdisciplinary. It welcomes as members anyone involved with popular music.
Music Theory Midwest
Music Theory Midwest (MTMW) is a regional society of the Society for Music Theory. Originally chartered in 1990 to serve sixteen midwestern states in four "regions" (Kentucky, Michigan, and Ohio; Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin; Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, and the Dakotas; and Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Tennessee), MTMW now boasts well over a hundred members from across the U.S., has expanded to include Western Ontario and Manitoba, and attracts participation in its events from around the world.
Society for American Music
The Society for American Music is dedicated to the study, teaching, creation and dissemination of all musics in the Americas. As a scholarly, collegial, and inclusive organization, we serve a wide and diverse array of academics, librarians, composers, performers and members of the general public.
Society for Music Analysis
The Society for Music Analysis (SMA) is a UK-based international organisation dedicated to music theory and analysis. We operate as a charity and are registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales (charity number 1168650). We are affiliated with the journal Music Analysis and support and organise a regular programme of events, including the annual Theory and Analysis Graduate Students (TAGS) Conference, the Music Analysis Summer School (a residential course taught by international experts), and other Music Analysis Conferences (‘MACs’) and symposia.The SMA welcomes interests in all musical repertoires and cultures and promotes music theory and analysis in the broadest sense, including formal and critical theory, aesthetics, semiotics, music psychology, cognitive science, music technology and many other subdisciplines and interdisciplines.
Society for Music Perception and Cognition
The Society for Music Perception and Cognition is a not-for-profit organization for researchers and others interested in music perception and cognition. The Society hosts biennial conferences, providing opportunities for members of the research community to present new research in the area of music cognition.
Past meetings have been held in a variety of cities, hosted by different institutions. In addition, SMPC cooperates with other organizations in music cognition to host international conferences.
Society for Music Theory
The Society for Music Theory promotes the development of and engagement with music theory as a scholarly and pedagogical discipline. We construe this discipline broadly as embracing all approaches, from conceptual to practical, and all perspectives, including those of the scholar, listener, composer, performer, teacher, and student. The Society is committed to fostering diversity, inclusivity, and gender equity in the field.
